The ART project was comprised of two distinct types of work: roadway renovation and station construction. The roadway portion involved the realignment and resurfacing of almost 10 miles of Central Avenue (the historic route 66) as it makes its way through the heart of the city. Beyond the surface renovation, the roadway work includes re-signalizing 32 intersections, 20 miles of new fiber-optic infrastructure, revising or adding street lighting to obtain compliant pedestrian-level lighting, as well as extensive landscaping upgrades. The station portion saw the creation of 19 station platforms complete with tensile fabric canopies and state-of-the-art passenger information and lighting systems.
